About Us
Alabama Black Belt Adventures is a public-private partnership committed to promoting and enhancing outdoor recreation and tourism opportunities in the state’s 23-county Black Belt region, which extends across the state and lies below the Appalachian foothills and above the Coastal Plain.
Supporters include outdoor enthusiasts, environmentalists, conservationists, economic development and tourism professionals, business owners, farmers, landowners and many others with an interest in the region. Alabama Black Belt Adventures has received the support of several notable figures in Alabama, including Alabama Rep. John Knight of Montgomery; State Sen. Hank Sanders; Lee Sentell, director of Alabama Tourism; Barnett Lawley, commissioner of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources; Montgomery businessman Thomas Harris; Larry Lee, director of the Center for Rural Alabama; Neal Wade, director of the Alabama Development Office; and Tim Gothard, director of the Alabama Wildlife Federation.
An important component in this effort is the Black Belt’s widely acclaimed hunting and fishing opportunities. In addition to promoting those and other outdoor recreation, Alabama Black Belt Adventures will market other destinations in the region ranging from antebellum homes to sites of some of the nation’s most important civil rights events.
